According to the requirements of Document Jian Biao［2014］No.189 issued by Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development (MoHURD)-"Notice on the Development and Revision Plan of National Engineering Construction Standards in 2015", based on extensive investigation and careful summarization of previous practices, and referring to relevant international standards, the Standard Drafting Team amended this standard after soliciting opinions from all sides.

The main technical contents of this Standard are:1.General Provisions;2.Terms;3.Basic Requirements;4.Land Use and Buildings;5.Neighborhood Facilities;6.Roads;7.Residential Environment.

The main contents of this revision include:1.Extend the scope of application to the compilation of urban planning and urban residential area planning and design.2.Adjust the method and scale of residential area classification control, integrate and refine the control indexes related to land use and buildings of residential area;optimize the control indexes and setting regulations for neighborhood facilities and public green spaces.3.Align and coordinate with current relevant national standards, industry standards and construction standards;delete technical contents relating to the integrated and vertical design of utilities engineering;simplify terms and concepts.

The provisions printed in boldface type are compulsory and must be enforced strictly.

Standard for Urban Residential Area Planning and Design has been approved as a national standard with a serial number of GB 501802018，and will be implemented on December 1，2018.In this standard，provision 3.0.2， 4.0.2， 4.0.3， 4.0.4， 4.0.7， 4.0.9 are compulsory and must be enforced strictly.The former GB 5018093 Code for Urban Residential Areas Planning and Design will be cancelled and replaced accordingly.
